Best time of the day to Pin on Pinterest
There’s a lot of debate about the best time to pin on Pinterest, and I used to wonder the same thing myself. After some experience, I now believe there is a good time and a bad time to post, but it’s not the same for every Pinterest business account.
I don’t usually follow the internet with every advice it has, but I did come across a reliable study from Coschedule, which suggests that the best times to post on Pinterest are around 2:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., 8:00 p.m., and 9:00 p.m.
While this can be helpful, does it apply to every account? The answer is not necessarily.
In this post, I’ll discuss how timing can affect your Pinterest performance and whether you should worry about posting at specific times.
I’ll help you figure out what works best for your account so you don’t feel stressed about posting at the “perfect” time.
What is the best time to post on Pinterest?
When posting on Pinterest, the timing depends on several factors.
If most of your audience is in the US, you’ll want to focus on Pacific Standard Time (PST) or Eastern Standard Time (EST), depending on where your main audience is. This helps you align with when your audience will most likely be online.
Now, for the specific time to post, I recommend using a simple approach: post when your audience is most likely free.
Since women largely use Pinterest, you can look at your audience insights within Pinterest to see if your audience is mostly women or men.
In my case, I’ve noticed that many of my female followers tend to be free after their workday, typically around 5:00 or 6:00 p.m.
Others might also check Pinterest during their lunch break, around 1:00 or 2:00 p.m. This is when people are more likely to scroll through Pinterest while relaxing or having a meal.
Another great window for posting is in the evening, from around 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., when people are winding down for the day, and even from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. when they might be preparing for bed.
Based on my experience, the sweet spot for posting on Pinterest is around 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in your audience’s time zone. This has worked well for me long, so I suggest trying it.
What happens when you post at an odd time?
If you don’t post at an ideal time on Pinterest, nothing drastic will happen, but you might not get as much engagement as you would if you posted at the right time.
For example, if you post at 9:00 a.m. with fewer people online, you’ll likely see less interaction with your pin.
Pinterest distributes your pins to different sections, such as “related pins” or “pins you might like,” and also shows them to your followers.
The key is that when the first few people who see your pin engage with it (clicking on it and visiting your blog post), it sends a positive signal to Pinterest.
This tells the platform that people like your pin, and Pinterest then distributes it more widely.
Timing matters because it helps Pinterest gauge whether your pin is valuable. For instance, I once made the mistake of changing the posting time for one of my accounts. I went from posting at around 7:00 p.m. PST to at 2:00 to 3:00 a.m. PST, and the change was significant.
My pins, which had previously been performing well, suddenly started getting zero impressions. I switched the timings back, and my next pins performed well.
This shows how important the timing can be for your pin’s initial performance and its success within Pinterest’s algorithm.
Time Zone Factor
Consider time zones; it’s important to remember that not all Pinterest accounts have audiences based in the US.
Many accounts cater to audiences in the UK, Europe, or other parts of the world. In such cases, you need to consider the time zones of your specific audience.
For example, posting between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. might be ideal for some demographics, but you should adjust based on your audience’s location.
The key is to use Pinterest’s Audience Insights tool to check your audience’s location, age group, and other demographics.
For instance, if your main demographic is between 18 and 44, most people are likely working or studying, so posting in the evening or at dinner time works well.
If your target audience is different in age or gender, you may need to tweak your posting time accordingly.
Understanding your audience’s behavior and when they’ll likely be free will help you decide the best time to post. Adjusting based on your specific demographic will lead to better engagement and performance on Pinterest.
Do you post all pins at the same time?
A major study by CoSchedule suggests that Sundays or weekends are the best days to post on Pinterest because more people are active during these times, leading to higher engagement.
While I post pins daily on my account and can’t definitively say that weekends bring the most traffic, I’ve noticed that consistent engagement can still be achieved by posting at the right time.
On one of my accounts, I post about 15 pins daily, but I don’t post them all at once.
I schedule each pin with a 15 to 20-minute gap to avoid Pinterest thinking I’m spamming. This way, I can adjust my timing without stressing over posting at a specific time.
You’ll probably see better results if you can post consistently simultaneously each day, like in the evenings. The key is to find what works best for your audience and keep it consistent.
I suggest going to your Pinterest account, checking the audience insights, and analyzing your audience. This will help you figure out a good time, like in the evenings when they will most likely be free to engage with your pins.
